We recently reached a big milestone in our eight year history as we celebrated the arrival of our 100th employee in August!

In reaching this benchmark, it’s clear that as an organisation, i3Works has come a long way since our inception in 2016. Eight years have flown by and, in that time, we’ve steadily grown our skillset and broadened our service capabilities as an innovative management consultancy business. We can attribute our continued growth and success to our fantastic clients, supportive partners and of course, our dedicated team that continue to deliver excellence.

Despite the rapidly increasing headcount, i3Works has continued to invest in its people and culture to ensure that, despite geographical distance, we all remain connected to each other and our work. There are clear examples of such investment: with the return of a Bristol office in Temple Quay, regular team meetups and company days, the wellness benefits that allow employees to expense up to £120 month for anything that helps physical and mental health. Of course there was also the £250 donation per person to any local charity of our choice which, in turn, resulted in the i3Works raising over five thousand pounds to the Red Cross Ukrainian crisis appeal.

Our company culture and the strength of our skillsets that maintain our prestigious reputation with our clients comes from our rich and diverse backgrounds. From facilitating ex-military personnel into civilian life (i3Works is a proud Armed Forces Covenant signatory and has a silver award for its Armed Forces Recognition Scheme) to supporting graduates in their first roles to catering for people who wish to change careers, with the i3Institute.

Since it’s early beginnings in 2019 the i3Institute has evolved over the years, now supporting three programmes: the Fast Track Consultant (FTC) Programme, the Project Controls Academy (PCA), and the joint Project Planning Academy (PPA) with our partner organisation Vulcain Engineering.

All these programmes involve hands-on support, guided learning to gain industry-recognised qualifications, one-to-one coaching and meaningful work experience both internally and externally. The breadth and depth of our grass-roots programmes show i3Works’ commitment to their employees over the years in facilitating various career aspirations.

Welcome to our 100th Employee: Storm Ellis

The 22nd of August was Storm Ellis’ first day at i3Works as our 100th employee. She is starting as a Consultant within the Project Controls service line. Having graduated from Sheffield University with a distinction MSc in Aerospace Engineering in 2020, Storm then gained experience working within the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) on the Project Professional Grad scheme. Within this scheme, Storm worked more specifically within Risk (becoming a level 2 risk manager within 2 weeks!), Scheduling and Project Management. She also had the opportunity to coach and mentor local students through the first year of their A-Levels during this time.

Storm commented ‘My first week has been filled with welcoming faces, it was a refreshing change to not feel nervous about starting a new role. I am already treated as part of the team and feel like I will thoroughly enjoy my career within i3Works.’

Outside of work Storm is a very proud dog mum of 3 dogs – two Bordeaux Mastiffs and one Staffy-cross-Bullmastiff. Storm has recently taken up hiking, and if she passes her motorcycle direct access test, she intends to travel all over France with her friend next year on bikes.

A sweet celebration

In order to mark the occasion and celebrate the arrival of our 100th employee in the traditional sugary fashion, a selection of letterbox bakes were arranged and sent to all i3Works employees by Bakery Number Eight, an independent artisan bakery based in Bristol. Along with a selection of delicious brownies and cookies, the bakery included a hand written note on behalf of the directors thanking the team for their hard work and dedication.

Bakery owner Megan said “This order will be our largest to date, thank you so much, we hope you enjoy everything.  It is wonderful to have received this order from a company that is so obviously keen to support local businesses.  For such a large order, it would have been easy for i3Works Ltd to go to a big chain bakery, instead, they chose us which means a lot to us as a small business.

i3Works in the future

Sustainable growth has always been i3Works’ plan and the future is looking no different. We are still looking to expand many of our service lines, particularly Cloud Architecture and Service Management, whilst growing the number of partners we work with.

In the short-term, we all look forward to getting together for our company day on the 13th of October in Bristol. In the long-term, we have a number of changes planned in order to help realise our vision to be a mid-sized and dynamic technology-led consultancy.

A huge thanks to everyone, past and present, that has been part of the i3Works journey. Here’s to many more years.

Ben Ames, Executive Director said “We’ve come such a long way over the last 8 years and are delighted to welcome our 100th permanent employee to i3Works. Our growth is a testament to the hard work of our people and the reputation we have built with our clients for rolling up our sleeves and getting their projects delivered.

Our growing capacity and expanded capabilities give us the ability to deliver to additional clients in new and exciting areas, which in turn broadens the development paths for our employees substantially.

Well done everyone for your hard work and dedication, and thanks to all of our clients for recognising our abilities and enabling this journey.’

Chris Cooke, Defence Director said “During my time here, over the past 6 and half years, I have seen i3Works grow from a micro-SME in the early days (with one contract in Defence Digital) to a growing, exciting and reputationally strong business who customers love to do business with. Personally, I am proud to be part of this organisation and to work with all of our excellent colleagues – here is to the next 100 employees!
