We speak to Kate Williams, Consultant, about her work with Defence Digital, her career goals, and what she loves about i3Works.
Can you tell us about your career experience before joining i3Works?
Before joining i3Works, I worked as a General or Office Manager across various sectors, including Manufacturing, Retail, and Logistics. This experience provided me with a solid foundation in operational management, team leadership, and process optimisation. My roles often involved streamlining operations, enhancing productivity, and ensuring seamless coordination between different departments.
What is your role and what does an average week look like for you?
I am a Project Planner for the Defence Digital Fixed Networks (DDFN) team. My primary responsibilities include developing and refining project schedules, enhancing their maturity, and assisting delivery teams with various project control tasks. Each week, I ensure that project progress is tracked and reported to senior management.
What attracted you to i3Works?
i3Works’ commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities to individuals, even those without conventional experience, was a major attraction for me. Their innovative approach to understanding market needs and developing in-house talent through comprehensive training programmes stood out. During the interview process, I was impressed by the supportive company culture and the potential for personal and professional growth that i3Works offered.
Can you share a project or achievement you’re particularly proud of?
I am particularly proud of achieving PPC and MOR Practitioner level qualifications and learning project controls essentials within a year. Working on the DDFN contract has been especially rewarding, giving me hands-on experience I can draw on for future projects.

My favourite part about working at i3Works is the opportunity to collaborate with knowledgeable and engaging colleagues. The team’s willingness to share their expertise and experiences makes our collective work so much easier and higher quality. We also host a number of social events like after-work drinks, parties and team-building activities, which really enhances team spirit.
How does the company support your professional goals and aspirations?
I have regular discussions with my line manager about my career path. Together, we have mapped out the steps needed to achieve my goals, and I have received valuable guidance, training and resources to encourage my progress.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I focus on promoting healthy eating and living habits for myself and my family. I enjoy long walks and spending time outdoors, particularly in sunny weather, which allows me to rejuvenate and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
